Reference photos
You don't need an SLR camera to capture amazing reference photos! A smartphone with a good camera can do the trick, especially if you keep a few simple tips in mind.
First, try to take your photos in natural lighting—this will show off your pet's fur colors beautifully. When you're snapping away, get a close up photo to show details, Also, remember to shoot at eye level with your pet for the best perspective; shooting from above or below can distort their look. With these friendly tips, you'll create fantastic reference photos in no time!
Not all photos are suitable for creating a pet portrait, particularly those taken in low light, from afar, or while the pet is in motion. For instance, the photo below suffers from darkness and pixelation, obscuring details and resulting in dull eyes.
Additionally, cropped ears make the drawing process challenging and it's important to avoid using color-altering filters on reference photos, as these can distort the true color of the pet’s fur. Clear and well-lit images that showcase your pet’s features will yield the best results for a beautiful portrait.

Therefore, I encourage you to book with as much advance notice as possible, as my schedule often fills months ahead. I'm always eager to accommodate your needs when feasible, so please don’t hesitate to reach out and inquire about fitting your portrait into my schedule.
